Welcome to all the new readers I met at eBay Live! For those of you who couldn't make it, it was once a again an amazing
gathering of eBay members. Most of the attendees were sellers (or sellers to be) and were dazzled by the huge trade show area.
For those of you who would like to see a list (with contact information) of the vendors that exhibited, click here.
I've found some new eBay features and some tips and tricks from my newest writings, so please read on....
Resale Tax Numbers
Whether your State calls it a resale license, a tax use permit, or a Sales Tax ID, having this number is the only way you
can buy items for resale from vendors who only deal on a wholesale level. The real bargains, job lots and manufacturer deals,
can only be purchased by a State certified retailer. This tax number is your key.
If you don't have your resale number, getting one is very simple. The procedure often consists of filling out a short
form (many states have them online). Click here for a page that will link to almost all 50 states' government sites. If you have trouble finding exactly where to go, a current
list in is my eBay Timesaving Techniques book.
New Benefits from the U. S. Postal Service
eBay has finally gotten aboard the U.S Postal service wagon, allowing sellers to print labels through the eBay and PayPal
sites directly. They've also joined into an agreement with the Post Office to offer special eBay co-branded boxes in 3 sizes
and tape. You can get a peek at them from this PDF file from the Post Office (hint, go to page 94). These supplies should be available through eBay by next month. As soon as the
link is live, I'll include it in my next newsletter.
If you don't want eBay's logo on your packages, you can still
get free Priority Mail boxes and envelopes delivered to your door. Sadly, the USPS has discontinued offering their free Priority Mail tape.
Secret Revealed! What's "hot" on eBay?
Everyone always asks, "What's selling on eBay?" eBay has finally answered the question by posting a monthly PDF file that
lists 24 main categories, and breaks them down to show where buyer demand is exceeding supply. This report also takes into
consideration where bid-to-item ratios are relatively high (more supply vs. demand). Access the June 2004 report here.

Non-Paying Bidder Report has a new name
NPB's (used to stand for Non-Paying Bidder - then became Non-Paying Buyer) and now called UPIs (Un-Paid Items). There's
a whole new process for filing that allows for several features:
a Buyer and Seller can mutually agree not to complete a transaction and the FVF (Final Value Fee) will be refunded.
Filing can be performed on the My eBay Selling page (look on the left hand side in the Selling Links box) by clicking
on "File an Unpaid Item Dispute"
To take a look at the status of your Final Value Fee refunds, click the link in the Selling Links box that reads: "Unpaid Item Disputes."
You can get a tour of the new process by clicking here.
Remember that since February, eBay also offers a free re-list insertion fee credit if the seller re-lists an unpaid
item and it successfully sells the second time.
Looking for merchandise in all the wrong places?
If you're trying to get some legitimate wholesale merchandise to sell on eBay for the Christmas season (and you already
have your resale number) and haven't filled your quota, how about trying this. To ferret out the wholesale websites, go over
to your favorite search engine (www.google.com or www.yahoo.com). Perform a search for retailer login and then wholesaler
login. You'll find a host (OK, maybe millions) of companies who have logins for this type of business.
If your results
are a bit overwhelming, type in the type of merchandise you're looking for as well. Such as: retailer login lingerie.
Finding the deals through misspellings?
As you know, I'm a huge proponent of searching for deals on eBay by misspelling search terms. If you don't remember this
tip from my book, try it again. There is a website that has a tool that allows you to type in the word of your choice, and it will present you with many common misspellings
- all ripe for searching on eBay. A search to find misspelling for disney comes up with disney, disneie, dysneie, dysney,
d1sney, dismey, disnye, diseny, dinsey, dsiney, idsney, disne, disny, disey, diney, dsney, isney". You can also click on each
work for the results and run a google search to see how popular each typo is.
New Spam Scams
We're all familiar with the standard "phishing" email scam (the one that tries to get all your personal information). To
avoid falling victim to this, close the email. Go directly to the eBay (or PayPal) site in a new browser window. Log onto
your account. Believe me, if there's a problem, you'll soon find out! Also keep in mind that eBay and PayPal always address
you by your registered name (scammers usually address email to "Dear Valued Member"). If for some reason, you become locked
out of your eBay account and your password won't work (and you suspect someone is using your account) follow the procedure
outlined here to get a new password and straighten out the mess.
There's another scam that's becoming increasingly popular; when
a scammer contacts your bidders and tries to misdirect payment to another email address. Even worse, they ask you to wire
money to an account out of the country. Always stay on the safe side and be sure the email is coming from the seller. Never
send money to an email address other than the one your seller has registered on eBay.
Always confirm this type of request
with your seller via telephone. (You can get your seller's phone number in the Contact Info area here). Sending your hard earned money to Uzbekistan - when your seller is in North Carolina - is not a smart idea.
